AI Features

Skraib uses multiple AI models to help at every stage of writing — from autocomplete to final review. All AI features respect your content: we never train models on your writing without explicit consent.

Super Scribe

Super Scribe is Skraib's three-layer autocomplete system. It runs continuously as you type, offering suggestions you can accept with Tab or dismiss with Esc.

How the layers work

  • Layer 1 — Instant: Purely local. Fixes typos and completes common words instantly. No network request, no latency. Always active.
  • Layer 2 — Fast: Sends recent context (1,000 characters) to a lightweight model. Returns predictions in under 150ms. Good for sentence completion and next-word suggestions.
  • Layer 3 — Deep: Analyzes your entire document library to match your personal writing style — vocabulary, sentence structure, tone, and recurring themes. Returns in 500ms–2s. Most powerful, most personal.

Learning: Super Scribe tracks which suggestions you accept and reject. Over time, it improves its predictions to better match your voice. This learning is local to your account and never shared.

Usage: Each layer consumes AI tokens from your monthly allotment. Layer 1 is free (local). Layers 2 and 3 count against your plan limit. Check your Dashboard for real-time usage.

AI Review

AI Review analyzes your entire document and produces structured feedback. It detects content type automatically — poetry, prose, technical writing, academic — and adjusts its criteria accordingly.

Review categories

  • Style: Sentence variety, word choice, cliché detection, rhythm
  • Structure: Paragraph flow, transitions, pacing, organization
  • Clarity: Ambiguity, passive voice, unnecessary complexity
  • Voice: Consistency, tone appropriateness, point-of-view stability
  • Impact: Emotional resonance, hook strength, memorable moments

Each review produces an overall score (0–10) and per-category breakdowns. Click any category in the Review panel to see specific inline suggestions. Free plans get 3 reviews per month. Pro and above get unlimited.

Content-aware: For poetry, AI Review checks meter and imagery. For technical docs, it checks accuracy and clarity. For academic writing, it checks argument structure and citation style.

AI Comments

AI Comments provide inline writing suggestions as you type. Unlike Super Scribe (which suggests continuations), Comments flag issues and offer improvements for what you've already written.

Comments appear as colored highlights in the text:

  • Yellow — Style suggestion (awkward phrasing, word choice)
  • Green — Praise (strong imagery, good rhythm)
  • Blue — Structure suggestion (paragraph order, transitions)
  • Red — Grammar or spelling issue

Click any comment to see the full suggestion and action buttons: Apply (replaces the text), Dismiss (removes the comment), or Ignore (keeps comment but dims it). Dismissed comments train the AI to avoid similar suggestions in the future.

Toggle AI Comments on/off from the editor toolbar or Settings. They consume tokens only when generated, not while idle.

Context Engine

The Context Engine indexes your entire document library in the background. It enables cross-document awareness — Super Scribe can reference characters from Chapter 1 while you're writing Chapter 5, and the AI Review understands your story's full arc.

How to use it

  • Ask questions: Open the Agent panel and ask "What did I write about Elena's backstory?" The Context Engine searches all your documents and returns relevant excerpts.
  • Tone consistency: Super Scribe Layer 3 uses the Context Engine to maintain consistent voice across documents. If you always describe the sea as " restless" in your novel, it will suggest that phrasing.
  • Citation tracking: When you insert a citation, the Context Engine links it to the source document. Later, when exporting, it can generate a bibliography automatically.

Indexing: New documents are indexed within seconds. Large libraries (100+ documents) may take a few minutes for full indexing. Indexing happens silently in the background — no action required.

The AI Agent

The Agent is Skraib's writing assistant in the editor — it reads your document, answers questions, proposes edits, and produces structured work. Before every request it routes the intent: questions are answered directly, edit requests become reviewable proposals, and plans/briefs/analyses become deliverable cards. A question never turns into an unwanted edit.

Proposals — see every change before it lands

When you ask the Agent to edit, each change appears as an inline diff right in the document — strikethrough and insertion — with Accept/Dismiss buttons, plus a Proposals panel listing every change with Apply All and Dismiss All. Nothing touches your text until you approve it.

Skills — expert instructions on demand

The Agent ships specialized writing skills it loads only when a task calls for them: deep revision (top-down revision passes), plot structure (shape, pacing, threads), character consistency (continuity audits), style matching (voice fingerprinting), and research synthesis (citable briefs).

Tools — MCP servers and computer use

  • Memory: remembers writing notes (character details, plot threads, tone decisions) across sessions.
  • Library search: searches your own documents for continuity and related material.
  • Files: reads and writes files in a configured working directory (desktop).
  • Computer use: drives a real browser — opens pages, screenshots them, extracts text, clicks and types — for research on interactive or JavaScript-heavy pages.

Models: the Agent uses DeepSeek V4 Flash on all plans — fast and cost-efficient. Ultra and Business plans get GPT-5.6 Luna throughout: assistant, agent and Scribe.

Voice Dictation (desktop)

Dictate directly into the editor with a microphone button in the toolbar. Skraib transcribes fully offline — audio capture and Whisper transcription run on your machine, so your words never leave the device.

How it works

  • One-time model download: pick Tiny (75 MB), Base (145 MB), or Small (487 MB) in Settings → Voice Dictation. Downloaded once, stored locally.
  • Live waveform: a floating indicator shows the audio level while you speak, so you can see the mic is working before you release.
  • Insert at cursor: release the mic and the transcript lands exactly where you were writing.

Offline dictation has no per-word cost — only the one-time model download. Microphone permission is requested on first use; the desktop app must be the packaged build (macOS privacy rules).
